The Secular Community has hosted social events that foster a strong community. We have promoted dinners, cruises, concerts, auctions and kayaking trips for the benefit of our members and friends. When the threat of COVID-19 has passed we look forward to resuming our in-person activities.
We also choose to demonstrate our involvement in the local community with acts of kindness and good works. The Secular Community created the Howard Goldson Student Scholarship program in 2020. This program is designed to help students pay for college expenses and to get students to think about how the First Amendment, specifically, the reference to embargo the establishment or support for a particular religion, is a benefit to our society.
The winner of the scholarship is invited to read her or his essay at our membership meeting.
